The Town >> The Pass

Setup


You arrive at the saddle of a high alpine pass, trudging up the backside of sharks tooth mountain for days. The snow has battered you for the last couple of days. You reach the high point of the mountain, your lungs filled with the stinging cold air. 

You look out across the valley in this moment of respite, the snow covered branches of the trees sag under the weight of the fresh snow barely hanging on. There is a profound sense of calm as the snow deadens the sound that your footstep make. Your party sighs a sense of relief with the hardest climbing behind you and only down hill and flat ground awaiting the rest of your travels. 

If the party does a perception check they notice the lack of wildlife in the area, birds don’t chirp and there are no animal tracks that they would expect to find. In the distance you hear the sounds of battle.


The Caravan.


You come in to a wooded area and hear the sound of battle, screams melding into the sounds of guttural sounds. The sounds of gurgles, what you would surmise as the last breaths of some being gasping its last breaths shatters the calm silence. 

As you creep closer you see what looks to be like a traveling group of merchants defending what looks to be like their camp that they have made. The fire from the pit still has life to it as the snow tried to damped what you would think would be a roaring fire. You see a group of men putting up a hasty defense, some have clubs and axes to fend off a group of demonic creatures that are assaulting the group. You see a couple of men and women on the ground, blood pouring from wounds around their neck and upper torsos. The snow melted where there blood has pooled.

A child is screaming, calling for its mother, she is covered head to tow in blood. You see a creature that appears to be all teeth and legs, its hunger never satiated. It spots the child and is now making a direct line to them.
